I don’t know about you but when my boys fall asleep right before football practice they are IMPOSSIBLE to get ready to leave the house.
WE ARE GOING TO BE LATE
Practice is at 5pm and its 4:40pm….I look at the clock, see that Mikie (my 7 year old) is asleep on the couch and start to panic. “MIKIE wake up!!! Wake up buddy its time to get your gear on. We are going to be late.” He wakes up and immediately starts crying……Well this is awesome!
I start to sweat as I am rushing to put his pads and cleats on. He is fighting me to get dressed the whole time. I can feel my patience dwindling down to NONE. This really is all my fault because I lost track of time but I am still rushing him and getting frustrated like I usually do when we are running late.
We get into my rig and start to drive to town. Mikie is still crying. This happens a lot when you have so much to do and three kids all going in different directions. My heart gets heavy and I just start praying to myself, I’m not feeling like the best mommy right now.
WE NEED TO PRAY
I looked at Mikie in the rear view mirror and asked him to pray out loud with me. He willingly says yes right away. I start praying out loud “Dear God, thank you for Mikie and his life. Thank you that he gets to play Football. God, I lift Mikie up to you Lord. God Mikie needs your help. Jesus, help us. Make Mikie STRONG, so strong like a Lion. Give him strength lord, strength like his big brother Nick (who is 11). God we love you so much, AMEN”
Then I asked Mikie if he would pray out loud. He starts praying “God, Make me strong. God make me strong like my big brother! GOD PLEASE MAKE ME STRONG LIKE A LION!!!!!!!! God I need to be so strong, not weak like a sheep! Please help me. Jesus!” He finished praying and his posture changed, he wasn’t crying anymore and I said “MIKIE JESUS ANSWERED YOU! I can already tell you are stronger.” He said “Mom you are right! I feel so strong and I’m ready for practice!!!”
PRAYING CHANGES EVERYTHING
I didn’t just see his attitude change, mine changed too. I felt my stress melt away and I got excited for his football practice also. It reminded me that in ALL situations I need to pray. I need for my children to see me dependent on God and it will help them to depend on God too.
THANK YOU JESUS
It’s time for football!
